Narration

 1. Turn into the indirect form of speech:

(a) The master said to his servant, "Go out of the room."

Ans: The master ordered his servant to go out of the room.


(b) He said to them, "Don't tell a lie."

Ans: He advised them not to tell a lie.


(c) I said to my friend, "Please lend me your pen."

Ans: I requested my friend to lend me his pen.


(d) He said to his master, "Forgive me, sir."

Ans: He requested his master to forgive him.


(e) I said to my teacher, "Please explain the passage."

Ans: I requested my teacher to explain the passage.


(f) Father said to me, "Be polite to others."

Ans: Father advised me to be polite to others.


(g) He said to the boy, "Wait here till I come back."

Ans: He told the boy to wait there till he came back.


(h) The captain said to the soldiers, "Fire on the enemy."

Ans: The Captain commanded the soldiers to fire on the enemy.


(i) I said to him, "Don't laugh at the lame man."

Ans: I told them not to laugh at the lame man.


(j) He said to me, "Let us try again."

Ans: He proposed to me that we should try again.


(k) She said to her brother, "Let us go to the zoo."

Ans: She proposed to her brother the should go to the zoo.


(l) I said, "Let him read the poem."

Ans: I wished that he might be allowed to read the poem.


(m) He said to them, "Friends, follow me."

Ans: Addressing them as friends he told them to follow him.




2. Turn into the Direct form of Speech:

(a) I requested him to lend me some money.

Ans: I said to him, "Lend me some money."


(b) He told me to go home.

Ans: He said to me, "Go home."


(c) My uncle advised me not to mix with bad boys.

Ans: My uncle said to me, "Don't mix with bad boys."


(d) I proposed that we should play then.

Ans: I said, "Let us play now."


(e) He advised me not to waste time.

Ans: He said to me, "Don't waste time."


(f) He requested them to lend him their ears.

Ans: He said to them, "Lend me your ears.


(g) He wished that he might have a cup of tea.

Ans: He said, "May I have a cup of tea."


(h) He told me not to disturb him.

Ans: He said to me, "Do not disturb me."


1. Translate into English using both Direct and Indirect forms of speech:

(a) তেওঁ মোক কৈছিল, "মনপুতি পঢ়া।"

Ans: He said to me, "Read attentively."


(b) আয়ে মোক কৈছিল, "দুষ্ট ল'ৰাৰ লগত নুফুৰিবা।"

Ans: The grandmother said to me, "Do not mix with the bad boys."


(c) সেনাপতিয়ে সৈন্যসকলক কৈছিল, "শত্ৰুক আক্ৰমণ কৰা।"

Ans: The Captain said to the soldiers, "Attack the enemy."


(d) সি দেউতাকক কৈছিল, "অনুগ্ৰহ কৰি মোক এশ টকা ধাৰলৈ দিয়ক।"

Ans: He said to his father, "Please lend me a hundred rupees note."


(e) তেওঁ মোক ক'লে, " মোক ৰবিবাৰে লগ ধৰিবা।"

Ans: He said to me, "Meet me on Sunday."


(f) মই তেওঁক কলোঁ, "বলা, ফুৰিবলৈ যাওঁ।"

Ans: I said to him, "Let us go to walk."


(g) তেওঁ ল'ৰাজনক কৈছিল, "জুইৰ লগত ধেমালি নকৰিবা।"

Ans: He said to the boys, " Don't play with the fire."

Ans: The players cried out with joy that they were winner.


(e) He said, "How nice is the moon!"

Ans: He cried out in surprise that the moon was very beautiful.


(f) He said, "Good-bye, my brother!"

Ans: He bade good bye to his brother.


(g) The girl said, "What a beautiful rose it is!"

Ans: The girl cried out in surprise that it was a beautiful rose.


(h) "Bravo! well done!" We cried.

Ans: We applauded saying that we had done well.


(i) He said to me, "How happy you are!"

Ans: He exclaimed that I was very happy.


(j) You said, "Good morning, Mr. Baruah!"

Ans: You wished Mr. Baruah good morning.



2. Turn into Direct Speech:

(a) He wished that you might live long.

Ans: He said to me, "May you live long."


(b) He wished (prayed) that I might prosper in life.

Ans: He said to me, "May you prosper in life."


(c) He exclaimed with grief that he was ruined.

Ans: He said, "Alas! I am ruined."


(d) I bade good-bye to my friend.

Ans: I said, "Good-bye, my friend."


(e) You exclaimed with sorrow that you were very unlucky.

Ans: You said, "What a unlucky I am!"


(f) He bade good-night to his native land.

Ans: He said, "Good night, my native land."


Change the Narrations:

Ans: He said that his friend was waiting outside.

Ans: He said to me, "Will you give me a pen?"

Ans: John asked Mary if she would go to school that day.
